Five Tips to Drive Traffic to Your Gig Wisely Site Using SEO

A Gig Wisely site will give you a leg up with prospective clients. It will package your services, experiences, engagement terms and reasons why clients should trust you onto a single, branded webpage.
You can use the site URL of your website on LinkedIn, proposals, email footers, industry forums and other places to show your contracting business is legitimate and well defined.
But what if you want to use your site to also attract visitors. Can it do that?
Yes, but you’ll need to put in some effort. Websites are like baseball fields. You can’t just build them and expect visitors to come.
Here’s five Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tips to help you attract visitors and make your site more discoverable by search engines, like Google, Yahoo and Big.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It’s the process of improving your website’s visibility on search engine results pages (SERPs) or the results you see when you type in a search query, such as “best marketers in my area” or “tech recruiters in Atlanta”.
Search engines use very elaborate algorithms to evaluate every page on the internet, compare them to similarly themed pages, and decide which page should rank the highest on the SERPs.
Getting your pages to rank higher than other pages take some work. Here are 5 tips that will help you climb the search engine results and attract more visitors. Keep in mind, you probably won’t get to the first page on Google with your personal web page because companies with much larger sites, like Indeed, will outperform you. But you can still get more traffic.
Tip #1: Add more pages to your site with a blog
Expanding the number of high-quality pages on your site – with a blog – is a tried-and-true method to increase traffic to your site. The search engines have more pages to evaluate, and visitors have more places to land. But the blog posts can’t be something you throw together after partying like a rockstar. The posts must be thoughtful and insightful to outrank others with a similar theme.
Focus on what you know best. For example, if you are a recruiter, write blog posts about “How to land a job in Data Analytics in 2025. Or “Three resume tips to get the attention of the CIO” or “The best skills to highlight in an interview for a financial manager role.” (Note Gig Wisely provides a blog template in its Plus package, which you can then use to create your blog posts).
Tip #2: Consider adding a domain that explains what you do and where you do it.
Tip 3: Use meta titles and descriptions to encourage visitors to click on your website pages
There’s lots of ways to optimize your site technically for the search engines, but one of the most important is meta descriptions. A meta description helps search engines understand your web page(s) and give users a preview before the click.
For example:

To do this, you’ll need access to your WordPress site. Then, you can write a 150-160 meta description to entice clicks.
For example, if you are a CFO, you may want to write a meta description for your website like “With 20 years in startups, I can help secure new funding.”
You should also have a meta description for every page on your site – whether it’s blog post, testimonials page, work samples page, etc. You may want to hire a SEO to do this, as well as potentially help you with the content (see tips #1 and #4).
Tip 4: Constantly update your site with new content like testimonials, work samples, blog posts
Tip 5: Promote your site everywhere
Just putting your website URL on your LinkedIn profile isn’t enough. You need to actively promote it to industry associations, forums, school directories, association directories, etc. The more visibility to your website, the better.
You can measure the traffic using Google Analytics. (Gig Wisely Plus package includes GA).
Using a Gig Wisely Website for Lead Gen
Finally, keep in mind that a website can serve many purposes – it can be your online calling card (showcasing your personal brand), way to separate yourself from the pack, and lead generation tool.
If you want it to drive traffic and leads, be prepared to do some work. You may even want to hire a SEO to help you with content creation, keyword research and some technical aspects of making your site more friendly to search engines.
